Seeking out the Sunshine

January 1, 2020 by Ashley Romney

“So much in life depends on our attitude. The way we choose to see things and respond to others makes all the difference. To do the best we can and then to choose to be happy about our circumstances, whatever they may be, can bring peace and contentment. … We can’t direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails. For maximum happiness, peace, and contentment, may we choose a positive attitude.” – President Thomas S. Monson, “Living the Abundant Life”, Ensign Jan. 2012, 4.

“I’ve had to evict some thoughts a hundred times before they would stay out. I have never been successful until I have put something edifying in their place.” – Boyd K. Packer

Our thoughts are POWERFUL “As a man thinketh, so is he (Proverbs 23:7)

8 Things you can do to INCREASE your ability to seek out the sunshine

1. Retrain your brain by spending at least 20 seconds appreciating and breathing in the good moments when you find them.

This can be as simple as “the sun is shining.”

2. Banish fault-finding and celebrate the successes of others

3. Meditate/Yoga – This gentle practice is so healing for the brain & mind to truly transform.

4. Surround yourself with positive people

5. Expect trials but remember you can do ALL things through Christ and trust that He will bring you to solutions.

6. Serve others so you can see just how good you have it.

7. Put positive quotes everywhere you will see them… around your house, on your mirror, in your car, on your desk at work or your locker at school.

The more you see good, the more you will find good.

What we focus on grows!

8. Use positive words in your inner dialogues or when talking with others.

Here’s to living a life with an open heart when you’re struggling to just breathe!!!

Here’s to focusing on the good days when tears are all you know.

Here’s to an optimistic attitude in spite of the trials that just keep piling up.

Here’s to believing in greater things to come!
